Best of Norway: Preacher’s Pulpit! (Preikestolen)

By  |

There are many spectacular places in Norway!
And Preacher`s Pulpit (Preikestolen) are one of them.
Its located above the lysefjorden.

How to get there?

The closest city is Stavanger, its the fourth largest city in Norway and it has a airport with many European flights.
Stavanger is about 25 Kilometers away from the site. In total it will take you about 1 hour to get there and you also need to take a ferry.
Another Option is to travel from Kristiansand, another Norwegian City (My hometown) but it is a bit further to drive and not so many European flights.

I have been to the Preacher`s Pulpit many times and by average it will take you about 3-4 hours for a round-trip.
My personal record is about 1 hour 15min but there was no traffic, good conditions and I was jogging parts of the track.

And yes! the only way up is by taking a 3.8 kilometer long hike.

Preikestolen or Prekestolen, also known by the English translations of Preacher's Pulpit or Pulpit Rock, is a famous tourist attraction in Forsand, Ryfylke, Norway

Any costs?

Yes, unfortunately you must pay for your parking and its quite expensive.
Car: 160 Nok
Mc: 60 Nok

In addition there`s a small shop for souvenirs, coffee, ice cream etc.
But keep in mind, its very over priced so if your on a budget buy your snacks somewhere else.

My suggestions!

Be there very early, that way there will be less tourist and you can get to the top quickly.
During peak time, it can get very challenging as its sometimes kinda crowded and you may end up walking in a line.
OR be there late as there will be less people on the pulpit ( You may however meet a lot of people walking back down).
I personally recommend to be there early.
